Greetings ~

The first decade of the 20th century was a time of fun and adventure for the young. Bike riding through the parks and trails, streetcar rides to downtown, train excurtions to the next town and canoing on the rivers and lakes. In 1907 a day of relaxation could include renting a canoe and going for a row around the lake with friends. There were no video games, Facebook or cell phones to gobble up your life. There was less than 1,000 motor cars in the entire United States. It was a time of carefree pleasure. And death was the very last thing on the minds of the young. But it was present non the less. And a canoe trip on a warm afternoon or evening could have a terrible outcome as we will see here.
